1:1 Learning at Magdalene

Our 1:1 Journey

At Magdalene Catholic High School we believe that learning and teaching is enhanced through the full use of all learning technologies. Learning technologies, equitably available to all students and staff, promotes equality of opportunity, equity of access to resources and data, supports flexibility in learning structures and styles, and enhances educational outcomes for all students. Young people today live in a digital world. They are both proficient and comfortable with the integration of technology in their everyday lives. As educators, we need to be able to relate to and communicate with young people in relevant and meaningful ways and as such we need to fully embrace the technologies with which they are so familiar. As professional educators the demands and pressures placed upon us continue to rise and as such we also need to find more efficient ways to operate in delivering quality learning and teaching.

We believe that the 1:1 Laptop program will assist staff and students at Magdalene in achieving our shared goals through:

• Ensuring equity of access to technology for all students and staff.
• Providing 24/7 access to information, resources and learning materials.
• Providing a more efficient and less time consuming means of sharing information and data.
• Encouraging staff and students to become more independent self-reliant learners.
• Providing teachers and students with a range of dynamic digital learning tools.

In 2007 a 1:1 Laptop program will be rolled out to all full time staff and from 2008, the 1:1 Laptop program will be rolled out to Year 7 students.
